I think it is both funny and interesting when games bill themselves as "Part # in the [blank] series" (and other games are never written). It is fun to speculate what directions those future games may have gone. This poll is a memorial to those games that may have been!
Trading Punches, by Mike Snyder 4 votes "Part 1 of The Convergence Saga" [+]"Part 1 of The Convergence Saga: The author wrote an essay about the game. Among other things, he talks about what had been his future plans for the series. You can read it here: http://www.sidneymerk.com/comp04/punches.shtml" () --Jonathan Blask... "This had an intriguing setting." [+]"This had an intriguing setting.: I think this is one of the more detailed examples of mythoepia and worldbuilding in IF, and I haven't even finished the whole game. It's too bad the series was not continued." --strivenword... (No comment) [+](No comment) --Kinetic Mouse Car... (No comment) [+](No comment) --Lance Cirone... Vote for this game
Journey, by Marc Blank 3 votes "Part One of the Golden Age Trilogy" [+]"Part One of the Golden Age Trilogy" --Jonathan Blask... "We never learn more about Umber" [+]"We never learn more about Umber: Much of the talk of Umber late in the game suggests he would have played a large role in what would have been the remainder of the Golden Age trilogy. Probably a malevolent role at that, all the more so since Astrix and the rest of the Wizard's Council "know him not."" ( - Full review) --mjhayes... (No comment) [+](No comment) --Lance Cirone... Worlds Apart, by Suzanne Britton 2 votes "Sequel novel was never written" [+]"Sequel novel was never written: The game ends by saying that the story will be continued in a sequel novel. This is unlike most of the games on this list that promise an INTERACTIVE sequel, but it is still an unfulfilled sequel hook. It is almost 25 years later and the sequel has not yet been written." --P-Tux7... (No comment) [+](No comment) () --JasonMel... Vote for this game

Hero, Inc Part 1: Calling All Heroes, by Nate Cull 2 votes "TO BE CONTINUED in Volume 2 of HERO, INC!" [+]"TO BE CONTINUED in Volume 2 of HERO, INC!: Also from the game: You did it! You've won this round! Tune in for the next episode of HERO, INC! (Volume 2 release date to be announced, but likely mid 1997.)" --Jonathan Blask... (No comment) [+](No comment) --Lance Cirone... The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams and Steve Meretzky 2 votes "Ends with a sequel hook" [+]"Ends with a sequel hook: The story of this game ends about halfway through the book that it was based on. A sequel promising to deal with "Milliways: The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" never materialized due to Douglas Adams preferring to work on Bureaucracy. A very early work-in-progress version of the sequel was leaked to the public in 2008, but it only lasts for a few rooms. Due to the game starting exactly where its predecessor ended (stepping out onto the surface of Magrathea), it can be assumed that this game would have dealt with the remainder of the events from the first book as well as at least some of the events of the sequel." --P-Tux7... "I think we can..." [+]"I think we can all agree that The Restaurant at the End of the Universe would have single-handedly assured the dominance of commercial IF for decades to come." Wonderland, by David Bishop, Bob Coles, Paul Findley, Ken Gordon, Richard Huddy, Steve Lacey, Doug Rabson, Anita Sinclair, Hugh Steers and Mark Taylor 1 vote "A second game based on "Through the Looking-Glass" was planned" [+]"A second game based on "Through the Looking-Glass" was planned: According to Jimmy Maher's sources, Wonderland, obviously based on "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", was to be followed by a sequel based on "Through the Looking-Glass" if it did well. Not only did it not do well, but it was Magnetic Scrolls' final interactive fiction game, and their second-to-last game overall." --P-Tux7... Vote for this game

Dutch Dapper IV: The Final Voyage, by Harry Hol 1 vote "A delightful homage to Douglas Adams, replete with satire and whacky hijinx" [+]"A delightful homage to Douglas Adams, replete with satire and whacky hijinx: a textbook example of what the author calls "pulling a George Lucas". Today is the Same as Any Other, by Adam Wasserman 1 vote "This is the first..." [+]"This is the first game in the Bunker series, but it is currently the only episode. The ending strongly hints at a next installment. While it is a completed piece it is currently not enough to stand on its own. There were things that were left unexplored, and it would be great if the author decides to add a second episode." () --Kinetic Mouse Car... Vote for this game
