I'm a sucker for horror, psychological suspense, adventure, the paranormal and supernatural, monsters and mystery.
Please suggest scary games to me - even those which lie outside of the genre of horror, like sci-fi, crime or fantasy, if they really are frightening and spooky!
Anchorhead, by Michael Gentry 6 votes "Scary in so many different ways throughout the story" [+]"Scary in so many different ways throughout the story: The disturbing feeling as you uncover dirty family secrets. Your heart racing when you hide, and when you think you've just been caught spying. Classic gothic horror. The revulsion of seeing a dismembered body. Panic as you barely avoid certain death in a dilapidated building. This story covers all the bases." ( ![]()

The Lookout, by Paul Michael Winters 1 vote "This game..." [+]"This game cultivates one of the strongest senses of dread that I have encountered (so far) in interactive fiction. You manage a lookout tower in the wilderness following a personal tragedy. But it becomes apparent that something is lurking outside, and the suspense increases sharply with each day that passes in the gameplay. I do wish it were longer and more exploratory but then again, that makes it a nice lunch-break length game." ( ![]()
