About the Story

"Ever since the fall of the Galactic Thessalocracy 40 years ago, on account of the erebus plague, the one thing that has bound people together across far-flung star systems has been a love of Viennese pastries."

Pilot your starship, trade tortes for ASMR videos, avoid pirates, embark on adventures, and maybe even discover the secrets of the galaxy. Multiple playthroughs are encouraged.

Selling Viennese pastries in space, September 21, 2016

This cyberpunk-styled Twine is based on the Shufflecomp release. I could not access version 1.5.

You are a space baker in a galaxy where everyone's voice is surgically removed at birth. For entertainment and relaxation, people watch ASMR videos; in fact, people have implants to enhance the effect of such videos.

This game is broadly branching, with a few major decision-making points leading to different and distinct endings. The author has really thought about the setting, here, and merges the incongruous (Viennese pastries, ASMR) with the typically dystopian (a great plague, a disfigured people) to create something wonderful.

The post-Shufflecomp version of Cryptophasia is now available!

Ply the ruins of the Thessalocracy in your baker-ship, trade tortes for ASMR videos, and perhaps discover the secrets of the erebus plague, the death of your brother, and why no one can speak.

+new end mode ("Roses Mode") and new branching endpaths revealing more of the backstory
+chiptune soundtrack by Ivy Baumgarten
+editorial cleanup and randomization enhancements

Available for download or online play (the game is playable offline; however, it utilizes Google Fonts, so it won't be quite the same experience without an internet connection).

For Your Consideration: Games from 2014 that should be nominated for the XYZZY Awards by Molly
There were a lot of great games released in the past year, and now that the XYZZYs are coming up, it seems like a very good idea to take a poll of all the games from last year people would like to see nominated. The management has asked...
