About the Story

"Here you are, trying to survive yet another day in the big city with no money, no job and no hope. As you walk down the street in the government research project area, you suddenly see a sign reading: 'Volunteers needed for military research project! Do you want to make money? Do you want to help your country? Can you start at once? No special skills needed. Enter here.' Everything on the list sounds good to you, so you enter the door and sign up. That's when your nightmare begins..."

Baf's Guide

This is the first episode of a cyberpunk trilogy in progress. In desperate need of cash, you volunteer for a scientific experiment. You are given special abilities - primarily, the ability to link your mind with electronic devices by touching their I/O leads. Your goal is to use your new abilities to escape the laboratory before the researchers can find your new limits of survivability. The enhancements are a good conceit, and well-implemented: you really have to think in terms of them in order to win. The chief flaw of this game is that you will frequently find it necessary to go back to an earlier save because of things that you didn't know would be necessary. There is also a time limit and a few time-sensitive puzzles.

SPAG
The screens-long opening serves as a fast-if-not-especially-believable way to get the character into the main thick of the action. Once there, the plot moves briskly through a storyline filled with in-jokes and almost-caricature NPCs... but it somehow remains fun and engaging.

SynTax
The technical nature of the theme means that Enhanced contains terminology, jokes and concepts related to the genre, but they require little more than a basic understanding of computing and are generally straightforward to pick up, so you don't need to be a sys. admin. to get the gist of what's happening.

Games part of an unfinished series by Jonathan Blask
I think it is both funny and interesting when games bill themselves as "Part # in the [blank] series" (and other games are never written). It is fun to speculate what directions those future games may have gone. This poll is a memorial...
