One of the few games in the neglected Farm Noir genre, LAIR of the CyberCow takes a stylishly chilling, ambivalently moral look at the social themes of our times -- or, does it?
Play it now: don't wait for the movie. (Requires ADRIFT 3.9) [blurb from IF Comp 2008]
27th Place - 14th Annual Interactive Fiction Competition (2008)
This regrettably very buggy game had modest goals and fell short of them.
It can be played, but only with the Adrift 3.9 interpreter (run390.exe), which is available only for the Windows OS. People with the newer Adrift 4.0 will find that their OS defaults to that version, which then prompts them to convert the file into the 4.0 format. This happens because the file extensions for 3.9 and 4.0 are the same.
LAIR of the CyberCow will not convert correctly into 4.0. Third party interpreters will not play it correctly, either. Sometimes such interpreters warned the user that the game wouldn't play properly, but sometimes they did not: with spectacularly inexplicable game behavior resulting.
People who have played the game with 3.9 have said, basically: "Eh. It's okay."
Sincerest apologies to those who had to grapple with these technical problems. I'm looking at rewriting the thing in TADS 3.
Conrad.

This is an ADRIFT game from 2008, and like most ADRIFT games (especially from that time), it has quite a few bugs.
It's not terrible; it has some fun moments as you wander around a bizarre, goofy landscape. But eventually, the bugs pile up and it gets too hard to play.
