About the Story

Jasper Quickbuck, insider-dealing lord of Ridley's Manor, plots to steamroller the gnome-belt for yuppie housing.

To the gnomes' horror, accident-prone Ingrid Bottomlow, just escaped from her "holiday" in the wilderness, seems their only hope.

When immovable market forces meet the irresistible Ingrid, will there be a U-turn? Or will humour be the only winner?

Crash

"Just as in Gnome Ranger, every situation in the sequel is laced with a characteristic type of humour which, depending on taste, will either have you splitting your sides or scratching your head in bewilderment. To he honest I didn’t much like the continual use of ‘gn’ instead of ‘n’, particularly as you have to spell inputs that way as well. It’s not too much to put up with though, and there are some brilliantly-funny scenes, such as where a travelling salesgnome is making a feeble attempt at playing darts. Some of the solutions also require lateral, whimsical thinking, so the humour isn’t wholly superficial."

"Like other Level 9s, it is a combination of puzzles and story telling. The puzzles are neither too hard nor too difficult; they require a bit of thought, but all should be eventually solvable. [...] The comical characters are very well described and play a major part in the game. The detail of the game's text is quite astonishing - the room descriptions are funny and imaginative and there are many pop-up messages to keep the story going."

Best of Level 9 by Denk
After Infocom and Magnetic scrolls, Level 9 is perhaps the best known IF company. Though their first games had a very primitive parser, their last games had very advanced parser similar to infocom. These are my favorites. If you can...

Best of each authoring system by Denk
I intend to try the best games of each authoring system, so there will no doubt be many changes to this list in the future. So far, I think the following games are the best for each system I have tried: (games in alphabetic order)

The following polls include votes for Ingrid's Back:

Wandering NPCs by Fredrik
I have always been fascinated with games that have several wandering and independent NPCs, especially when you have the ability to try to order them around. This sets the stage for a game where no one session is like any other, and even...

Non-Infocom games of commercial era worth playing by tekket
What commercial games published between 1980-1993 other than those by Infocom do you think are worth playing?

forgotten gems by Marius Müller
I'm looking for games that don't show up in the IF histories or recommended lists, for what reason whatsover. Old games that maybe weren't boundary-pushing or noteworthy, but still give you a fun play experience. If you ever thought...
