You are an ancient Chinese poet in exile at a beautifully scenic location, but... you miss your friends very much. Go about your day haunted by how badly you've been treated by the emperor while also worrying that he's being taken advantage of by bad-faith officials at court, drink lots of wine, stare at rivers, and also the moon.
Optional but recommended soundtrack for this game: "The Fisherman's Song at Dusk" by Hong Ting
Content warnings: Alcoholism, metaphorical suicide.
Any errors in historical portrayal are entirely my own. This project is wholly born from vibes and period dramas with haphazard research in-between.

I've been interested in Chinese poetry the last few years as I help the mandarin students at my school and I've been watching C-dramas like Empresses in the Palace. I also visited China last year and saw a lot of the older stuff up-close. I like Du Fu's poems in translation.
So it was fun to see this. It's pretty simple; each page has two options you can click on, each associated with nature or something else lovely. At the end, you get a poem based on you choices.
I thought this was fun, and the choices of imagery were pretty.
you are an ancient chinese poet in exile is a short poetic day in the life of an Ancient Chinese poet in exile. Almost kinetic, with subtle variation between your choice of activities, you wake up in a beautiful scenic location, alone and maybe a bit lonely too, filling your day with distractions and reminiscing over your fate, sealing the day with a few poetic lines. It is delightful, both in the calmness of the setting, the bitterness of past events, and the melancholy of it all. Lovely!
