Another game that tried to expand upon the Andromeda storyline, December 10, 2015by mjhayes (Somewhere east of Garinham) No doubt players of Andromeda Awakening would know the bar was set very high. Andromeda Dreaming was by a different author and was short, but managed to capture the spirit of mixed wonder and helplessness as to why everything was coming apart. This is another derivative work by another author, but whereas Dreaming plays like Photopia, Ascending plays like Chicks Dig Jerks. The dialog, once again, is multiple-choice, and the story seems to be composed of two halves which are a bit sloppily joined together. The main character, who turns out to be a well-respected gang leader, also fits the CDJ mold. Was this review helpful to you? Yes No Remove vote | Add a comment

As someone considering writing a game in the Andromeda world, it is interesting to see what works for people and what doesn't. MathBrush, December 10, 2015 - Reply These are great! Are you going to do Apocalypse? That's my favorite. mjhayes, December 11, 2015 - Reply Okay. I posted the review of Apocalypse. There is one thing I should add about Ascending. I did like the references to Secret Of Monkey Island. (Spoiler - click to show)"LOOK BEHIND YOU! A THREE-HEADED MONKEY!" Since Awakening had a reference to Hitchhikers' Guide To The Galaxy and the infamous "maze of twisty little passages," that seemed appropriate. mjhayes, December 11, 2015 - Reply Yes. I knew I'd need a lot of time to write a review of Apocalypse, because I liked it even more than Awakening. I didn't have time to finish it yesterday. On a couple of disrelated notes, I'll wait to do a review of 1983 since I haven't finished playing it yet. I also discovered yesterday that Dreaming has a sequel: Genesis. Also, I'm missing three of the achievements for Apocalypse. I had some ideas, but none of them are working. |
