About the Story
Thousand Lives is an email-based, interactive story about a woman born in communist Poland. It follows her life throughout the decades and your choices define how it unfolds. Will you be a dissident or toe the party line? Whose side will you take in a torn family? What can you sacrifice for wealth and comfort?
Either way, you have to live with your choices. There’s no do-overs or restarts. There are six chapters and each day you will receive a new one, based on the choices you made earlier.

Thoughtful snapshots of life in Poland spanning decades, April 11, 2025A touching story experienced through the unique format of receiving a chapter by e-mail daily. After I made my choice, I would look forward to the new chapter in my inbox!
I really enjoyed navigating Poland's economic and political changes from the 1940s to 2000s. Facing emotionally difficult choices helped me learn more about my values and reflect on my family's history with immigration and communism.
It reminds us how the personal journey through swaths of history can contain heartbreak and reconciliation. History is not just known but felt.
The quotes and postage stamps are thoughtful portals in time. We thread them into narratives of who we are and who we've been.
