About the Story
"Encounter HD" is a 2024 remaster of the game originally published by Severn Software in 1983.
The game story and set-up is mostly the same, and the player is expected to do mostly the same thing as in the original game, but players expectations have evolved in last the 40 years, so the game has quite a few improvements compared to the original:
- While still running on the original Oric computer, it now require a floppy disk system instead of just tape
- The original game only had textual descriptions, this new version has graphical representation for the various locations and actions the player can do
- Some of the original failure conditions of the game have been reworked to be more fair to the player, and some alternative actions are available as well
- The score of the player is remember on disk, and there's also a list of achievements
The game is available on itch.io and Steam as a fully packaged emulator with a custom launcher, with the actual Oric game floppy file available in a subfolder for players who wish to play it on the real hardware.
