A short but intriguing adventure, February 1, 2024
by Ally (Montréal, Canada)

The Library of Horror delivers on its promise of an adventure through a creepy library. However, I found myself wishing for more! I was occasionally disappointed by a lack of descriptions for certain objects or commands. At times, I struggled to figure out what is or isn't possible to accomplish (and the correct syntax to do so). These are relatively minor complaints, though, and I enjoyed the prose and pacing overall.

I'm not usually a fan of scoring systems, but the way it's implemented here felt satisfying and encouraged me to replay/restore several times. The different "titles" for each score were a nice touch!

I would have loved to see more of the spooky side of the story – maybe a bit more buildup, or a few more elements to the mystery? As it is, I felt like it was over a bit too quickly after piquing my curiosity. But I understand that the game was probably intended to be short and not too deep or complex, and it does feel like a pretty complete experience even at that size. I enjoyed the (Spoiler - click to show)escape sequence at the end of the game (though I had issues with room exits being dropped from some of the room descriptions).

In short, it's an intriguing little story, with the potential to maybe go just a little bit further.
