After you receive your assignment and head off there is even an "in-joke" that anybody who has attempted to learn the INFORM language will likely appreciate. But after that the game becomes tedious as you try to solve a couple of contrived puzzles to achieve the simplest tasks. Depending on what you already have and the places YOU have visited, these puzzles could require a lot of traveling that only slows down the pace. Grannted the places you have to visit are interesting authentic San Francisco locations but the descriptions could have been more interesting and more detailed. This game didn't really grab me. You are a cat who is a detective with a ferret partner (everyone else seems to be human). You drive around a geographically accurate (I assume) San Francisco, trying to solve a crime.
The game is bizarre and zany, making some puzzles completely out there. It's like a cartoon; lost your car? don't worry, some film character falling out of the sky will help you 5 scenes later.
It's main interesting feature is your partner, whom you can take and drop and throw, and who has good dialog.

Detective and mystery games by MathBrush
These are games where you play a detective or someone else investigating a mystery. Most of them are realistic games which I am splitting off of my realistic list. Some are more magical or science fi-ish.
