Natural language parser?, March 24, 2026
by Adam Biltcliffe (Cambridge, UK)

The game claims to have a "natural-language parser" but doesn't understand commands like "look at my surroundings". On the other hand it also doesn't understand common conveniences like X LAMP or TAKE ALL. It's styled in a text-messaging type of interface with unskippable timed text for every response.

Thanks Adam. This is my first stab at building a game so the critical feedback is appreciated. The NLP is clearly tuned to the phrases I would use and I probably need to find a way to capture other common used terms and build them in to the lexicon. With regards to the game commands you mentioned, I also have further work to do to refine the engine to ensure it remains a faithful to the original in capability. Finally - on the point of the UI, I’ll review how I could improve this to accommodate skipping the timed text reveal. This is a side project I’m working on in my spare time and have only just recently discovered the 450 point walkthrough guide from Rick Adam’s which I’m planning to use to write a test suite. :)
