Not Another Hero

About the Story

You're probably familiar with those stories where people suddenly develop mysterious powers, and save the day. Well, this isn't one of those. Not the 'saving the day' part, at least.

In this game you'll play as a member of the ASCD, a sort of militarized branch of the local police force, tasked with dealing with anomalies. These anomalies are people who gained mysterious powers either during or after the surges of power. Most of them are relatively harmless, but there are some who possess the power to level cities to the ground. Better watch your step.

Editorial Reviews

The Breakfast Review
The story is presented in ChoiceScript. We follow our hero from their first reaction to the watershed incident, through their initiation into the government unit, to the moral dilemma of simply doing their job and dealing with the powered "anomalies". It does not feel as though the story is finished, however. Characters and situations are introduced, but never resolved; the final chapter involves a situation that feels more like the setup of a mystery thriller than anything else, something that we ought to spend several chapters investigating.

A mid-length choicescript game about controlling superheroes, May 10, 2017

This is a fairly long ifcomp choicescript game (about 5 chapters, though more are planned) about a world where superheroes have to be contained, like X-Men or the Incredibles.

This game seems to hit up all of the classic stereotypes of its genre, so I found it easy to just skim the text, the details all blurring together. The writing didn't pop out, and the text seemed to just do the job without excitement.

I was pleased by the interactivity, however; I tried to play as a rude brute, to see if the game could handle different styles of play, and the game really seemed to handle my input well. I would play it again; I feel like it has good bones, but it could use a few rewrites to get it to pop.
