Should have gone out for gouda, November 29, 2019

Being trapped in a vortex with evil cheese is one of those settings that pretty much only works in IF and I give the author props for the silly idea. Unfortunately the game is one rather tedious long puzzle that combines all of the worst types of short puzzles together, to wit: a riddle; waiting around until something happens; and of course combining abstract concepts of the on-line world with hastily made explosives(!).

I also wish the angry cheese had more variety; it mocks everything you do, but in exactly the same way at every moment. I only played for about fifteen minutes before resorting to the walkthrough so I could finish.

The endgame was cute, though I was left feeling hungry.

As the author of this game, I am sorry that you did not enjoy it so much. To be fair, (Spoiler - click to show)the taunts weren't all exactly the same; that was a rather difficult and time-consuming part of the game to implement(and I was trying to account for every possible action), and given that I was working on another game, I did not have much time to add in more insults. When and if I get more time to do so, that will be the first thing I change in the game. As an aside, though, the cheese WAS intended to make you feel like strangling it!

In the future, I should hope that reviewers avoid using words like 'worst' or 'tedious', without qualifying their terms (such as answering 'how are they the 'worst'...?' or 'why was it 'tedious'..??'). A little guidance from the audience never hurts.

Also, there was a hint system, which I pointed out in the help menu. It would have explained the 'abstract concepts', and might have made the experience more enjoyable for you, than to have to follow a very vanilla-ish and pedestrian walkthrough (if you'll excuse the redundancy).

I am glad that you liked the endgame. I figured that there must have been something you liked about the game; if you really disliked it, I would have thought you'd quit after 15 minutes, or less.

Nevertheless, thank you for your review!

Hey, thanks for your reply. My review comes off more harsh than I intended and I apologize for that.

To elaborate, I felt the tediousness was due to the puzzles feeling rather disjointed. I didn't see a running theme between them and I felt it was a bunch of random scenes with objects I had to collect for one final puzzle. As far as "worst" goes, I'll explain. I sometimes find riddles fun, but they often rely on language trickery which can put off non-native speakers. And I guess I just don't think typing "wait" several times should ever be the answer to a puzzle. I like things to be a bit more interactive.

And I was just ribbing on the exploding the internet puzzle. I think I was having flashbacks to some horrible virtual world puzzles in the PC game 'Ripper.'

Thanks for contributing a game to the competition. It's more work than I've ever put into making a game for sure. I may have to play Frenemies some day, since I'm impressed with anyone who can finish an Andy Phillips game!

I apologize, too, for my harshness. You are right, there was no 'story' or running theme, this was completely the intention. (Spoiler - click to show)The scene where you had to wait was taken from a movie that I absolutely could not resist adding to the game. Maybe later I will change it. But I totally understand.

Honestly, I wanted to see how far I could get after 'breaking the rules'. I thought this game would do better than my other one, as it was supposed to be easier; I was wrong, so maybe what you said is why..??

And I missed the movie reference. That's always the risk of referential humor and puzzles. It usually either lands great or not at all. Perhaps if each individual scene had landed with me I would have felt differently.

Oh that was the only movie reference. The rest were completely dreamed up by me.
