About the Story

"The Toad and the Widow's Call" is an interactive fiction that blends elements of macabre comedy and horror with a touch of Southern Gothic. The story follows a man who, a week after his wife's funeral, begins to receive strange phone calls from her. As he navigates his conversations with his deceased spouse and the strange boy who lives next door, the reader is presented with a series of choices that determine the direction of the story and its ultimate outcome.

With its unique and captivating blend of humor and horror, "The Toad and the Widow's Call" offers readers a chance to explore the themes of grief, isolation, and the complexities of human relationships in a new and imaginative way. The story's evocative Southern Gothic setting and rich, lyrical dialogue add depth and texture to the narrative, making it a one-of-a-kind reading experience.

Whether you're a fan of horror, comedy, or simply a lover of unique and engaging storytelling, "The Toad and the Widow's Call" is a must-read for anyone seeking an unforgettable journey through the dark, quirky, and often absurd world of the human experience.

For inspiration in writing this story, I romanced the pages of of Haruki Murakami, especially "Kafka on the Shore" and "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle." Additionally, I eased out elements from the work of David Lynch, especially "Twin Peaks," for a feel of macabre comedy and horror.
