Interactive Fiction that is in some way "annotated": a persistent running commentary from a perspective outside the narrative accompanies the "base" narration.
Sometimes the annotation may be authorial, at other times it may be meta-textual, a sidelong narrative or perspective covering an underlying narrative foundation.
For purposes of specificity I am not including games featuring extensive forewords or afterwords; the key distinguishing feature of "annotation" is that the commentary runs alongside the narrative.
