Encounter is one of many BASIC games released in the 1980s. It’s not particularly fast, lacks graphics, and has only a minimal amount of sound. The parser only accepts a single VERB followed by a NOUN. However, unlike many games of that era, the story is coherent, and the actions required remain logical and grounded.
There are very few random failure conditions, and nothing is left to chance, making the game relatively frustration-free.
It’s actually one of the first text adventure games I played on my Oric in 1984. I learned English playing it!
