About the Story

As your senses return, you come to realize you're lying in a cot - the type one might place a small child in. The sides have buckled outwards, creating jagged edges which prod uncomfortably into your chest. Blistered and cracked paint covers most of the wood; the parts that you can see are blackened and charred. In fact, as your gaze turns outwards, you realize that the entire room looks as though it has been caught in a fire. Ash is suspended in the air, catching the sunlight streaming in through a scorched pane of glass. It's actually quite beautiful, in a way. But by far the most interesting feature of the room is that the floor is almost entirely covered with jagged pieces of glass.
