Tricky retro-style game, February 2, 2024

I'm writing this review even though I haven't figured out how to reach the good ending yet! There is no walkthrough that I know of, and the hint system doesn't seem to be fully implemented, so I'll just put the game aside for now and review what I can; I'll write an update if and when I make further progress.

On a technical level, everything seems nice, and the music and graphics come together well. The interface gave me a hard time (I couldn't figure out how to scroll up, or how to save my game), but I figure that's a natural downside of emulating an old system.

I came across a few disambiguation issues (the two knights at the start, the dragon and dragon book) as well as a couple of typos, but generally they weren't distracting. One big synonym problem caused me to miss two endings on my first attempt: (Spoiler - click to show)typing "kill the princess" or "kill the dragon" returns a misleading "violence is not the answer here" response, whereas "slay the dragon/princess" has the expected result.

I'm very intrigued by the premise and I think I found every hidden item needed to achieve the best ending, but I can't comment on the rest of the story for now as I haven't managed to piece everything together yet. Old-school adventurers proficient in puzzling may find more success than I did!
