A 5-minute transhumanist future epic starring You and Your Friends
parodizes appointments, suicide, terrorism, extraterrestrials, Alphabet Inc. (not really as Alphabet Inc. was founded one year after this game's release, but could it be a portent?), ASCII art (Maybe I should put some of these in the keywords.)
Storycade
Phantom Williams game Schedule a Dinner Out With Friends handles this topic with the required level of ridiculousness, but with a dash of sincerity. People cancel plans because of their dying cat or their landlords birthday, but you also decide not to kill yourself so that you can make it to your next scheduled event. It’s that dash of severity, handled with too much of a straight face to be entirely a joke, that grounds the game in reality — even when it goes to infinity and beyond.
Phantom Williams doesn’t overstay his welcome, and Schedule a Dinner Out With Friends is relatively short. But there is plenty of replayability, and the options seem as varied and endless as they can be (except it doesn’t appear that you can really choose to stay in). The game has a good sense of humor, and is definitely worth a play through.
