About the Story

Woe is you! You were at a carnival and entered the Cave of the Troll because the admission was free! Little did you know that you would have to pay to get out. And you haven't a cent!

Your task is to find some money, pay the troll the toll, and return to your dull, but safe existence. Luckily, you can find some coins in the cave. Trolls, having no pockets, drop coins everywhere. So, look around and maybe you can find the 41 cents you'll need to get out.

This game was originally written by John H Doolittle in Turbo BASIC for PCs circa 1990 and used in his 'Scientific Thinking in Psychology' classes when he was a professor of psychology at California State University, Sacramento.

It was ported to ZBasic by Eric Thornton and released commercially by Critical Thinking Press as game 1 in the 'Adventures in Danger!' trilogy. The Apple II release was in 1992. There may have also been a Macintosh release.

The original author continued to update the game until 1996 and released the Turbo BASIC source code in 2023.
