The Ivory Calico

A noir story focused on Kitty Cross, a 1940s cigarette girl who gets tangled in a murder she (perhaps?) didn't commit. In the paranoid and jingoistic atmosphere of WW2 wartime, as a precarious immigrant she can't afford the police attention which could get her father, an anti-Nazi refugee, in hot water.

Can she navigate the cops, the mob, her shady almost-boyfriend and a private detective who can very well save her - or send her to jail?
