About the Story

A text RPG in the classic MUD tradition, played live against one shared server. Seven regions of forest, coast, desert and frozen peak, each with its own weather and a day/night cycle that changes which creatures come out. Gathering, crafting and cooking feed into combat; a party can clear three instanced dungeons with party scaling and bosses that telegraph their heaviest blows. Classes have their own abilities with mana and cooldowns. Players trade with each other, join guilds, send mail with items attached, claim a plot of land, and follow a five-chapter story to a final boss.

Command-driven, so keyboard-only, and it ships with screen-reader, large-text, ASCII-only and color-free modes. A new-player journey and a `hint` command show you what to do next.

The server is MIT-licensed and self-hostable, with an embedded web admin panel, so anyone can run their own world.

Nothing to install: open https://play.fablerift.net/ in a browser, choose a name and a password, and you are in the world. Telnet, SSH and a launcher client work against a self-hosted server. Chat is unmoderated in real time and player-generated, so expect the usual online-multiplayer content warnings.
