It started far from here - in Bucharest back rooms, in dim internet cafés where young men with bright eyes and quick fingers learned to read magnetic stripes as if they were open books.
From Romania, they spun their web outward: Madrid, Phuket, Cape Town, and Cancún. Tourist havens. Places where a stranger’s face is nothing unusual, and a stolen second at a cash machine can drain an account half a world away.
The scheme is simple, brutal, and endlessly profitable. Skim the numbers. Clone the cards. You’re not here to rewrite their story. You’re here to pick up where they had to stop. Your editor calls it “a follow-through piece.” You call it walking into a machine that eats people. After all, people have died for this enterprise.
Three nights in Cancún. No public itinerary. No press badge. Just a laptop, a notepad, and a stubborn belief that sunlight is still the best disinfectant.
