Mr Cuddle Cuddle, Bop Bop, by Nils Fagerburg (as Inverted Normals)

It's a Bop, September 23, 2020*

So, part of this may be because I haven't played any other felt animals games yet, but I wish more had been done with that aspect of the story! A lot of world stuff happens near the beginning, where I love the perspective switching. I think more of that would have been cool (more agents dispatched, perhaps?) The (Spoiler - click to show)mind control puzzle playing with the nature of IF parsers was a very nice touch which I enjoyed.

In general I'd say atmosphere is good, but it could have been taken a lot further-- there is something hilarious and adorable about little stuffed animals being hardboiled detective spies, and this could have been played up more for humor. The game takes some steps towards poking fun at classic spy movie tropes, but more of that would have been nice.

There are a few things where I don't really understand their purpose: (Spoiler - click to show)the beer bottle, the point of a lot of the island section, and the ability to take off your tuxedo.

Overall I'd give this like 2.5-3.5 stars.

CLEAN and good, August 13, 2020

In general, I enjoyed this game, but I think the timing was slightly misleading-- basically, it feels as though it's set up to go much longer and lead up to more complicated stuff but then ends up being a very self-contained and short adventure.

(The end-of-game message seemed to imply that (Spoiler - click to show)you should have learned to speak before completing the final steps, but I don't think there's actually a way to do that?)
