Best Works of Science Fiction IF

Recommendations by OtisTDog

I've always been a science fiction buff, but works worth recommending seem even fewer-and-far-between in the world of IF than they are in the world of books. This is the list of my favorites for this genre.

Please feel free to comment if you think I've overlooked any: It would be pleasure to add to this list!

2. Starcross
by Dave Lebling

3. The Weapon
by Sean Barrett
(2001)
Average member rating: (37 ratings)

OtisTDog says:

The implementation is *extremely* good. One of the more interesting things about this game is that it used a customized version of the Inform 6 compiler, allowing the author to write variable text descriptions in a manner that seems to have been the conceptual basis for the text substitution in Inform 7.

4. Ugly Chapter
by Sam Kabo Ashwell
(2003)

5. Slouching Towards Bedlam
by Star Foster and Daniel Ravipinto
(2003)
Average member rating: (214 ratings)

OtisTDog says:

To me, Slouching Towards Bedlam really stands out more as a story than as a work of IF, but I'm including it because it really *is* a good story, and there's no book version to recommend.

6. Fragile Shells
by Stephen Granade
(2010)
Average member rating: (51 ratings)

7. Scavenger
by Quintin Stone
(2003)
Average member rating: (29 ratings)

OtisTDog says:

A few significant bugs hurt this otherwise extremely well-done short game set in a Fallout-like universe, but it is still one of the most recommendable sci-fi scenarios I've played.
