The Familiar

In your family it's tradition that once someone turns thirteen they go down into the cave to go through the ritual to summon a familiar - a companion and protector for life. This year it's your turn and on the scheduled night - despite forgetting to actually *study* the summoning ritual - you're at the entrance and ready to go. But no problem, right?
