I am an illustrator and designer by trade, and also a writer, more or less. Reading and writing interactive fiction was one of many youthful pleasures lost to me in jaded adulthood. I stumbled back into it through an inadvertent and peripheral mention of a curious app called Twine (then unknown to me.) By sunrise my first text adventure since childhood was well underway. At least, I thought it was well underway until I returned to it later that day to discover in my enthusiasm I had created for myself a nightmare tangle of passages that took so long to sort out I would have done better to simply start over from scratch! I’d forgotten the cardinal rule of interactive fiction: do not set out without a clear plan of action. Over the next several weeks I would continue to forget that rule, day after day, night after night. Two months of alternating between fevered typing and sober editing has produced a (hopefully coherent) little story called Oedipus Nix, Reluctant Plaything of the Gods. I hope to soon decide on a suitable followup, and then work up the courage to write it!
