I was introduced to Text Adventures in the 1980s thanks to an Atari 1040 and a debilitating illness which prevented me from doing much else. I played Moonmist with a friend and was smitten.

We had a wonderful time typing in insults and swear words, putting the author's foresight and ingenuity severely to the test. Although we were well into our twenties, we both found this puerile pastime hilarious (which perhaps says more about us than about the game).

I've tried to keep up that interest over the decades, and even tried to write one (something which I still intend to do), but real life, not to mention motherhood, kept intervening (though I did write a SIOW text adventure in miniature on my Mac for my young son).
