Works With Impressive Emergent Gameplay - an IFDB Poll

I'd like to know more about works out there that feature mechanics/npcs/etc that can lead to interesting emergent gameplay. The classic example of "emergent" is The Hobbit text adventure with its npcs Thorin and Gandalf who traveled in the game without any rhyme or reason. It lead to some funny situations like when Thorin found The One Ring before I did. Thanks for any suggestions!
