The Labours of Hercules

by Terry Taylor

Mythological
1987

About the Story

As penance for killing his own family ... done in a moment of pure weakness and something he would never he able to forgive himself for ... HERCULES is forced to undertake twelve hazardous "labours" - all of which must be completed in order that he regain his freedom and be allowed to walk abroad again. Each task, in its own right, was considered to be all but impossible for a mere mortal, but taken as a collection of twelve their "challenge" appeared to be beyond even the ability of a "god". However, this was the task before HERCULES and success his only salvation. Anything short of complete victory would condemn him to a fate worse than death and would do nothing to ease his heartache over his departed family.

YOUR task is to guide him safely through his quest and to help him complete each of the twelve "labours". The journey will throw you into a fascinating world of Greek mythology. You will encounter many creatures from the realms of legend - CERBERUS the terrible dog that guards the way into the "Underworld", the fearsome "HYDRA" and the legendary CRETAN BULL. You will sail the vast oceans, cross the wide plains, negotiate the treacherous and dank swamps and climb the highest mountains. All in all, the search for the solutions you seek will be a long and arduous one ... Will YOU and HERCULES survive to tell the tale???

SynTax
As you would expect completing each task is not going to be a picnic and lots of thought and patience is required. A good map will also be a vital tool as things are well spread out. The text is functional with little time given to flowery descriptions. All exits are highlighted in the text.
